Travelling with my husband to Tucson, we decided to drive the Saguaro West on the way. It was 107 degrees F outside so we only did the valley view hike. We visited both the East and West Parks on a recent visit to Tucson. Whilst both were spectacular with their Majestic Saguaros (I wish we had them in the UK!!) we found that the drive around the East encountered a more sparsely populated Saguaro Forrest whilst the West was more densely populated. I actually drove through here on my way to the Desert Museum, on winding roads that reminded me a bit of driving through Yosemite or Big Sur. It was a really nice drive, and I took advantage of the pull-offs to take lots of beautiful pictures of the cacti and the rocky hills beyond. It's definitely worth the drive out... more

The Adventures of the Two Wise Ones www.twowiseones.com The Two Wise Ones especially enjoyed the West side of the park. The huge stands of Saguaro Cactus worked their way into their hearts. We headed over Gate’s Pass to Saguaro National Park West, home of the cactus of the same name and one of the few places in the USA it grows. Worth a visit if you're in the Tucson area. The park stands west of the Old Tucson Studios and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. It's an short and easy drive with a few opportunities for walks/hikes amongst the saguaro cactuses. more
