We've traveled a lot in the US and to a lot of national parks and this park is our favorite and if not our favorite, then tied with Arches or Glacier. Why? Because it's not crowded. Why? Because of the easily accessible wide expanses of land. Why? Because of the buffalo. We camped there and hiked all over the place... More

The park is one of the least visited. This is espcially true before summer comes. But our family had a wonderful time touring. Saw lots of buffalo and praire dogs. Also antelope, mule deer, and wild horses. Happened across Boots Bar and Grille before we started our afternoon. There were some magnificent vistas. Amazing to think of those who first... More

While driving along I-94, on our way back from Bismarck, my wife and I decided to take a short side trip to visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It wasn't much of a side trip because the entrance to the park was a short 15 miles off the beaten path. Since retiring, we decided that we would visit as many National... More

This beautiful park has a north unit and south unit. We drove the loop of the south unit and it was very scenic. You will see all of the wildlife mentioned in my title and be able to get some nice pictures. There is one place I would recommend you make a stop. Driving along the Little Missouri River you... We travelled here on an impulsive weekend getaway during the off-peak tourist season. We didn't know if it would be very scenic being an autumn visitation and after the trees had lost their leaves. We were pleasantly surprised. This National Park is beautiful! The diverse colors in the badlands landscape, the juniper and cedar greens, the herd of buffalo that... More

We toured the Lower Unit. Very interesting landscape with a nicely cared for loop road. We enjoyed using the picnic area which is adjacent to Cottonwood campgrounds. The picnic area is shaded and there is one large shelter besides the individual tables. Plenty of trash cans and grills available as well as a paved parking lot. Nice restrooms with flush... More

A very nice park that is somewhat like the Badlands but has a different feel to it. Seems like you drive up and down in each park, but Roosevelt has much more vegetation in it and seems more varied. The visitors center is small and does not have much in the way of displays. The park does not get the... More
