The trail was hot, dusty, and the pool were low and barely running. I would suggest this trail first thing in the morning, the the riverwalk and narrow in the afternoon to cool off. more

I concur with the 2 previous reviews, in fact I would not only go to the right after the bridge but would come back down this way instead of making the loop as the other direction didn't provide anything you didn't get from the other route and took longer. For my family of four, with two young teenagers, I found this hike to be quite easy. The hike to the first pool is more of a walk, and even wheelchairs and strollers can navigate it. My kids and I hiked the Lower, Middle, and Upper Emerald trails in March. We had a great time. The Lower Emerald is flat and easy, the Middle Emerald is steep at first and then levels out to provide splendid views and beautiful waterfalls. There are 3 pools, lower-middle-upper. The hike up to the lower pool is easy and very pretty. The upper pools drip down creating a wet walkway, but a very refreshing mist. You can then continue up to the middle pool, which was practically non-existent when we got there (a small puddle), but it was a fun hike with my teenager.... more
