Maybe it's my personal preference for scenery instead of culture/history...but I wouldn't recommend a visit unless it's raining and you have no where else to go. More

Worth a visit, it goes back to Japanese occupation more than one hundred years ago, some living house quarter still around, with a pay fee, one can walk into a real cave, to feel the experience of miners, some gold process machinery on display, the area is very big with many sections of history site, a whole day can easily... enjoyed the walking toward the museum. it is a good retreat to stay one a night in Jioufen and walk around in the peaceful morning. The walk toward the museum is very relaxing and no traffic. You could spend a whole day exploring the little alleys and the tea shops, food shops and trinkets (which are a bit cheaper than Taipei). I had the good fortune to go on a clear day and had AMAZING views. We got a driver for the day and did Yehliu, Jiufen, Jingguashi and Keelung in 8 hours. Absolutely lovely and... More

Getting to this museum is quite a challenge especially on weekends because of the long bus ride up the mount side. It's about the 4th stop from the main bus station you take from near the Ruifang Train Station. They have about 3 places worth visiting there, the gold mine tunnel where you actually walk through a real gold mine... More
