We spent about two hours at the Indian Creek Mine during a school field trip. We had a great time there learning about the history of the Indian creek mine and panning for gold.
The owners Arlene and Rodger are great hosts. They are entertaining and were very patient with the students and us adults.
We even found gold!

We thought it would be cool to pan for gold and saw the sign along the highway, on our return trip from the Portage Glacier. Although the gold flakes are already in the gravel, and are determined by the amount you buy in your bucket, it was still fun to learn how to pan and actually get the gold out...

My wife and kids 7 & 11 stop here from the advise of a regular visitor to Alaska for panning. He suggested we stop and visit with them and see how it is done. The people who own this site were super, they should us how to pan for gold and then put the gold into necklace for our kids....
