For decades it was the place to see the latest Hollywood and British blockbusters. It closed in the 1980’s after a short spell as a bingo hall. Now – thanks to a £2.1 million restoration project – the Hippodrome is open again, lovingly restored to its 1926 heyday. With a great program of blockbusters, art house and classic favorites, there’s bound to be something for everyone. « less

This beautiful recently restored cinema is well worth a visit. They always have a great selection of current and classic films. Try the cuppa showing when you can have a cuppa, cake and a film all for the one price. Saturday mornings are great for the kids and they also have regular Jeelie Jar screenings. More

Hippodrome is just lovely and shows great films by OMG are the seats close together - I have long legs and struggle to sit upstairs unless I sit sideways. Downstairs seating seems a little more roomy. More

As a family, we have been using the Hippodrome reguarly since it opened. The staff are very friendly and courteous and actually know and care about what they are doing. I feel very safe allowing my children to go there on their own or with their friends. It is an intimate cinema with the red curtain over the screen that... More

Thanks kirsti b, we're pleased that the Jeely Jar Specials are such a success (but please note everyone: not every week, we can't make that much jam at Callendar House!). We're delighted that your family all enjoy the venue. More

The Hippodrome is how cinemas should be! it's such a great atmosphere to watch the films in. I mostly use it to take my son to see kids movies on a Saturday morning - he absolutely loves it and now refuses to go to the local multiplex as he much prefers The Hippodrome - he's even prepared to wait till... After a triumphant restoration the oldest filmhouse in Scotland is now one of the newest, and the magic of cinema is back in Bo’ness! The Hippodrome was built around 100 years ago, predating films as we know them today. It was designed to show silent moving pictures of townspeople filmed by a local entrepreneur. After that came the classics of... More

I went to the Hippodrome to watch a move called dilemma, the movie was bad but the Hippodrome was excellent. I usually visit either Falkirk or Edinburgh to watch the movies but gave the Hippodrome a visit. We first went to Roberta's Bistro across the road which was lovely then to the Hippodrome. I for one won't be going to... More
