We visited here and loved it. The guide, Michael, had only been working there for a few weeks but obviously knew the history inside out. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Loved the black and white cine film - fascinating to watch. This was my favourite place on the island so don't miss it. more

Loved the place. I lived in Barbados as a pre-teen/just-teen but had not seen it back then. Finally went back to the island after brumpty-mumble years and this was a highlight of our trip. Simon is lovely and obviously so proud of the place, as is everyone else we saw/met there. We treasure our special bottle of rum and last... more

St. Nicholas Abbey is one of the oldest houses in Barbados apparently built only 30 years after they discovered Barbados, this house has been well preserved over the years and still on going as you would expect to keep things in good order, but also has a short black and white film set in the 1930's of life in Barbados... more

We have now visited St Nicholas Abbey 3 times!! The last 2 times to collect more Rum Decanters which we purchase as presents for special occasions. We have also returned to have a decanter refilled which they do at a very good price. I have read all the reviews and all except one I agree with. The family who own... more

I'm not a history buff and frankly find alot of things very boring, but not here. I fell in love with the Abbey. We arrived on a cruise ship for 1 day in Barbados. I've been here before but never to the Abbey. The ride is beautiful , when you pull into the long driveway and up to this majestic... more

Excellent visit. This place has been restored beautifully by a well known Barbadian Architect who bought the property a year or two ago.Watching sugar being ground in the original steam mill is a wonderful experience. The house itself offers a glimpse into the past plantation life, and there are many historical artifacts, maps etc dealing with the glory days of... more

I visited St. Nicholas Abbey March 2007. I live in Barbados and had been before as a little girl. The drive to St. Nicholas Abbey is scenic with stunning views of the rugged East coast from Cherry Tree Hill and tones of photo opportunities at the plantation itself. The house and surroundings are in excellent condition and beautifully kept, Larry... more

My visit to this beautiful historic house and its gardens was one of the highlights of an 11 day Caribbean cruise. I would recommend it to anyone interested in history or architecture. The wife and son of the family who currently own the Abbey were on the premises and took the time to talk with us, answer questions and recommend... more

St Nicholas Abbey is profiled in almost every book for Barbados. It is an old plantation home that has an operational Steam Mill for processing the sugar cane. They make their own Rum which you do get to taste. When we purchased our tickets, I asked directly what does this price cover. What exactly am I paying $13 US to... more

This unique house, located in the middle of an active plantation, is a great example of Jacobean style architecture. The house itself contains many samples of furniture and decorations which you are free to explore at will (first floor only, second floor closed to public) while the grounds contain a small refinery, old sugar mill and other interesting out-buildings. Although... more
