Harking back to the colonial past this is a place that sums up the Bajan history like few others. Beautifully restored to its former glory and set in delightful surroundings you are treated to an informative and interesting tour including a film of the last 100 years of Rum production on the island. Every member of staff seemed enthusiastic and... more

We normally do not go out of our way to visit historic buildings, we are quite content soaking up the sun. However, wherever we went, everybody said, you have t o see St. Nicholas Abbey its a must. Well we did and we were not disappointed. The place just oozes history, and not boring either, they show you a black... more

For the first time in generations, St. Nicholas Abbey is owned by Bajans and it shows. No expense has been spared to restore it to its former glory - the home and grounds are beautiful. The folks giving the tours are well informed, and seem truly excited and proud about their part in sharing Barbados history. Great marketing - they... more

Returning for an afternoon at St Nicholas Abbey was top on my wish list for this Barbados holiday. The experience exceeded all of my expectations yet again. From the local lunch served on the terrace to the fields and gardens, it was a dreamy afternoon. The owners and staff have paid attention to every detail from the restoration of the... more

St. Nicholas Abbey, was one of the few places we have ever visited, where we felt that we really got a good insight into the history of the place, make sure you get some rum when there, for all history buffs, this is definetely not boring, can only recommend it. The short movie they show is such a bonus, a... more

We visited here and loved it. The guide, Michael, had only been working there for a few weeks but obviously knew the history inside out. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Loved the black and white cine film - fascinating to watch. This was my favourite place on the island so don't miss it. more

Loved the place. I lived in Barbados as a pre-teen/just-teen but had not seen it back then. Finally went back to the island after brumpty-mumble years and this was a highlight of our trip. Simon is lovely and obviously so proud of the place, as is everyone else we saw/met there. We treasure our special bottle of rum and last... more

St. Nicholas Abbey is one of the oldest houses in Barbados apparently built only 30 years after they discovered Barbados, this house has been well preserved over the years and still on going as you would expect to keep things in good order, but also has a short black and white film set in the 1930's of life in Barbados... more

We have now visited St Nicholas Abbey 3 times!! The last 2 times to collect more Rum Decanters which we purchase as presents for special occasions. We have also returned to have a decanter refilled which they do at a very good price. I have read all the reviews and all except one I agree with. The family who own... more

I'm not a history buff and frankly find alot of things very boring, but not here. I fell in love with the Abbey. We arrived on a cruise ship for 1 day in Barbados. I've been here before but never to the Abbey. The ride is beautiful , when you pull into the long driveway and up to this majestic... more
