Bought from an American, the 38-ft craft designed to carry 25 (presumably unarmed) passengers nearly foundered during the weeklong crossing. It eventually ran aground at Oriente Province in eastern Cuba, but it was two days behind schedule. The saga gets worse: Castro's forces were ambushed and only 16 survived, including Fidel, Che, Raul Castro, and Camilo Cienfuegos. The park around the yacht is filled with military curios: tanks, jeeps, the delivery truck used in the 1957 assault on the Palacio Presidencial, and a turbine from a U-2 spy plane allegedly downed during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. COST: $3 (for memorial and Museo de la Revolucion). Tues.-Sun. 10-5. « less

The boat is enclosed so it cannot be accessed but can be seen from many angles. This was the boat Castro sailed from Mexico in an aborted attempt to overthrow Bautista in 1957. Castro was captured and sent to jail. Across the street from the boat is the old palace. Three stories of Cuban history, replete with photographs and bullet-riddled... More

indoor/outdoor museum showing Russian tanks, homemade farm tractor tanks, two planes, some Russian SAM's, and the Granma, the boat used to transport Castro and Che Guevara from Mexico. Also on exhibit is the well maintained transport truck with bullet holes from the unsuccessful assassination attempt on Battista. Well worth going to see but if you run out of daylight time,... More

You have to take a look in here, well worth it. Although ensure you have the exact amount to pay the entry fee as they are known to pretend you gave it when in fact you gave more! More

Glass enclosed so you cannot get too close but I suppose it needs to be protected. Very small for what it was used for. More

Disappointed could only see the Granma from outside the glass building ( though note earlier reviews said could tour the boat). Enjoyed the Museum of the Revolution which is inside Batista's old palace and adjacent to the memorial. Ceremonial Guard changes every 15 mins. Worth a visit. More

This memorial shows the revolution and its aftermath from the Cuban perspective (of course!). The relics are displayed in an open air setting and are very interesting to see. More

These 2 places are housed in the same area. It is amazing how the managed to get 82 men on this small motor launch. It is well displayed and maintained in an area at the back of the museum. The memorial shows other interesting pieces of military kit. Planes, tanks and a piece of the U2 spy plane they shot... More

Just a large glass case with a very small ship in it and mostly a few lumps of rusting junk outside. I am surprised Cubans see this as a ship to treat so highly as although 82 freedom fighters started out in it only 12 survived the trip including Castro who along with all the others was captured he was...
