If you've been to Copenhagen, and spent your time building up to the statue of the Hans Christien Anderson Little Mermaid...only to find, it's...well..little and a bit disappointing..you will probably be aware of what I mean by this description. Not that the square is little- it certainly isn't. But to be quite honest...there's Tiananmen Square...and Kim Il Sung Square (and... More

It's still worth including it in your sightseeing. We saw the Pope when he visited there and it was interesting. More

I visited here as part of a group tour of Cuba just weeks before the Pope arrived to speak to the Cuban people. The tower area was a beehive of activity as a huge pavillion was being set up to shelter the Pope and his entourage to follow our visit by several weeks. All tours seems to spend about 15... More

Pretty barren as there was no big speech or celebration happening. One can imagine how packed it could be. More

It is a little far out to walk from Central Havana but it shouldn't cost more than 5CUC for a taxi ride ( 8CUC for a return trip) Stand by the monument to Marti and picture this huge square filled with a million people as Castro ( or the Pope) addresses the crowd. It is hard to believe that so... More

There isn't a whole lot to see here. One first view, it's like a big parking lot with two distant buildings, one with a large outline of Che and one with a big outline of Fidel. On the other side of the road is a large statue. We stopped here as part of a tour for maybe 10 minutes, snapped... More

The Plaza is vast, with an enormous statue of Jose Marti in the middle, and a number of anonymous-looking government buildings around the edge, seemingly miles away. When we were there, only a couple of dozen people were present, virtually all of them tourists, so there was absolutely no atmosphere - maybe it's different when there's a parade on! More

This is where fidel used to hold court to the thousands and even now thousands get together for various rallies including May Day. Che and Camillo the great revolutionaries look benevolently upon you as you walk the plaza More
