We had a free shuttle into town from our resort. Definitely worth it, as vendors weren't pushy and it was safe to walk around at your leisure.
We really had fun rubbing shoulders with the local. Fishing boast, fruit markets and a little grub house serving fresh cooked local food. Lots of cool shops to check out. Beautiful colourful buildings and lots of live music and action. We spent a lot of time walking around and goofing around with the locals and taking pictures.
The downtown area of Punda has some excellent shopping and food. The place pretty much shuts down in the evening, so be sure to hit it during the day. Visited this colorful city off our cruise ship in November 2012. Was amazed by the floating bridge which moved out of the way when a freighter came in. City is divided into two and when the freighter came in it we took the ferry to the other side. Lots of shopping both low and high end. Husbands enjoyed the beers... More
Wandered the back street to spot some interesting architecture. Many building have been restored. The round market and floating market are a must visit. The tele museum is closed. Some of the better buildings are along the road on the seaside. Of course there are the usual souvenir shops all alike.
My husband and I and our 2 grown sons visited Punda for a day and really enjoyed the colorful buildings and shopping. Lots of small local shops for cool souvenirs as well as large high-end stores. The people were friendly and we all had a great time. Be prepared for lots of walking and for it to be very hot....bring... More
Visited off our cruise ship, what a colourful place. Waterside cafés add to the atmosphere. Leave enough time to cross the water as the bridge can take ages to open and close to pedestrians. Nice not to be hassled by street vendors.
Great shopping! It is a fun town and has an amazing view. You sense quite a bit of culture. The people are very nice. The area feels very safe. Definitely worth visiting.
