Boring...nothing much to see except for a few overpriced gift stores, a restaurant with rude personnel, it needs to be spruced up quite a bit. There was nothing going on, except the shameless exploitation of a small burro that stupid people could sit on and have their picture taken. It was overall depressing and a general waste of time. more
I visited Altos de Chevon on June 2nd. I used a guide and I was glad I did. The guides are located in the parking lot. It's a 70's village built high above the river. Altos means (high). There are awesome views. There's shopping, resturants and a store to buy snacks, a beer or maybe water. There's also a amphitheater... more
Went on a day trip to see this along with Catalina Island and a river boat ride. The main draw was Altos de Chavon which is truly stupendous- bring a camera. We only got 20 minutes there however. Went snorkeling and lunch on Catalina Island- which was also good. River boat Gator thing broke and we were stuck while they... more
What is so sad is that of all of these people visiting and reviewing Altos, most don't even bother to learn what Altos De Chavon is - rather they are disappointed by their less than "authentic" tourist attraction. Breathtaking! Altos De Chavon is absolutetly marvelous. The minute you walk in you know that ist's as close to paradise as you can get. The view that mother nature provides is precious and unforgettable. The most beautiful place I've ever been to. more
While Altos de Chavon does offer views of nature, I was terribly disappointed to find that the "town" was built in 1989 and, seemingly, to draw tourists. I am not sure that looking at new buildings, aged to replicate a different era, deserves the attention and time that this receives. It seems to me to be another attempt to "monetize"... more
What a fabulous place to visit and to dine. Watching the sunset from the balcony of the Italian restuarant, overlooking the river. Never seen such gorgeous views. The diner was delicious, not to mention the wine. For myself and my husband it was the highlight of our holiday to the Dom Rep. Not to be missed. more
Our trip to Altos de Chavon was part of a day long excursion that we took because we wanted the catamaran trip to Saona Island that was after the trip to Altos de Chavon. Well, the time in Altos de Chavon was my favorite part of the day! It was so incredibly beautiful - the only disappointing part was that... more
