Altos De Chavon was an interesting place to visit. Especially good for those who like scenic photos. The architecture itself was worth photos alone and then the scenic view of the Chavon River was quite exceptional. We happened to visit the day a local school was on a field trip and the kids wanted their photo taken. I would take... more

We drove to Casa de Campo while visiting Punta Cana. It's a 2 hour long trip from Punta Cana on a paved road. Once you enter Casa de Campo resort you have to drive ~ 10 minutes more to get to Altos de Chavon. Altos de Chavon is a small village built of cobblestone. It sits atop a cliff overlooking... more

Went there on a day trip that included catalina island we were only given about 20-30 minutes there which in my opinion wasn't nearly enough. The views over the river and surrounding countryside were stunning, the ampitheatre is a great thing to see. There is a museum, bars and places to eat.I will admit some of the shops are a bit expensive... more

This was a fantastic day trip with a stunning and relaxing river tour, a quaint visit to a farm, and a decent meal. The shopping was fun, the tour guides were friendly, and the views.......like nothing you've ever seen before. This is a MUST! more

Boring...nothing much to see except for a few overpriced gift stores, a restaurant with rude personnel, it needs to be spruced up quite a bit. There was nothing going on, except the shameless exploitation of a small burro that stupid people could sit on and have their picture taken. It was overall depressing and a general waste of time. more

I visited Altos de Chevon on June 2nd. I used a guide and I was glad I did. The guides are located in the parking lot. It's a 70's village built high above the river. Altos means (high). There are awesome views. There's shopping, resturants and a store to buy snacks, a beer or maybe water. There's also a amphitheater... more

Went on a day trip to see this along with Catalina Island and a river boat ride. The main draw was Altos de Chavon which is truly stupendous- bring a camera. We only got 20 minutes there however. Went snorkeling and lunch on Catalina Island- which was also good. River boat Gator thing broke and we were stuck while they... more

What is so sad is that of all of these people visiting and reviewing Altos, most don't even bother to learn what Altos De Chavon is - rather they are disappointed by their less than "authentic" tourist attraction. Altos De Chavon is a Cultural Center Foundation, with a Museum of Archaeology, a Gallery, an Artist in Residence Program, AND a... more
