Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There's a lot of nature to see, including rich wildlife (crocs and birds). The tour was also very educationable.
Easily accessible and not too expensive

If you are thinking about visiting Black River and are looking for an adventure do it!! But do it with Mr Teddy - a local guy who has spent his life on the river. His passion and knowledge about the local wildlife and plants is hard to beat and you are guaranteed to see crocodiles up close!

He also took us out to the famous Pelican Bar and a new business just started up the Dolphin and Reef Bar - bars that are on stilts in the shallow Caribbean sea. We preferred the new Dolphin & Reef bar owned by Shirley and Bill who gave us the warmest of welcomes! The total trip was around US$60pp - Take the trip with Mr. Teddy you won’t be disappointed!

We travelled independently to the Black River and had a private tour as noone else was there! It cost $25 per person for a boat trip up the Black River with guide.

Firstly you see hundreds of egrets in the trees opposite, and only waited 10 minutes before the trip started. We were provided with a waterproof jacket (although it was not needed as rain held off).

The guide was welcoming and engaging, telling us all about the history of the area, discussing the flora and fauna, and pointing out the wildlife. We saw several crocodiles and got some great pictures.

The guide also taught us lots about the Jamacian culture, a language lesson and great tips on Jamaican cuisine - a thoroughly enjoyable morning out, and highly recommended.

especially up the river the trees and of course the crocodiles are incredible. Locals can even call or touch them.

A boat rode up and down the river shows you the locals (crocs and egrets). The tour guides have the crocs trained to come when they call, and even some of the egrets too. A relaxing ride both ways, but can get hot if you are sitting in the sun. We didn't have any issues with mosquitos but if you went in the morning or evening then we were told they are very thick.

This was another tour which we were hoping would help us see the wild crocodiles in the black river we arrived early before the boats started so we were the first group to travel up the river sadly 30 mins later once we had seen 2 small crocodiles going under from a distance that was the trip over
there is a small centre where the rescue crocs are kept but to be honest its not worth the effort or money

We visited the Black River as part of a 3 part excursion. Wasn't really expecting much but was pleasantly surprised.
The Black River is really beautiful and our guide was was excellent, informative and funny. He made us laugh and entertained us with his antics and stories. We saw quite a few crocodiles which our guide had lovingly named (apparently after the last person they ate - joke). Some got quite close to the boat which was awesome.
