    Bob Marley experience- 9 Mile
I cannot rate this trip enough, we went as a family of 4, we booked through TUI, the whole day was amazing, we went to Dunns River falls first ( which I will review separately)lunch in a beachside Jamaican restaurant and then onto 9 miles. Go onto the nine miles tour with an open mind. Roads going upto the attraction are a bit hairy in places, but it’s interesting looking through the window and taking in-the scenery. On arrival you are greeted by a number of guys who are keen to sell you there wears, remember they are very poor, but they are not pushy either, you can purchase Maraujana in all forms, and everyone is smoking it around you plus you can purchase souvenir stuff. Our guide was brilliant, really funny and Knowledgeable about Bob Marley, you get to see his birthplace and resting place, it feels very spiritual up there and you can understand why he loved to write songs from here. Actual tour takes about an hour. We did not know a lot about Marley before we went, but it was still really good. I have just downloaded a book now on his life as it left me wanting to find out more. We also went with a good group of people who started of as strangers but we left as friends all a little high 🤣🤣Go with an open mind and have a fab day, you won’t regret it🇯🇲💕💕

    Slightly disappointed
I visited Nine Mile in 1999 ... back then the experience was smaller and a lot more authentic. 24 years later I am disappointed to say it felt so commercialised. I understand people need to make a living, but the pressure to buy/tip every few steps took away the enjoyment of the tour. The house and tomb hasn't changed and that part is still a humbling experience but I feel this tour has now been turned into a novelty act. Which is sad as it is thw opposite of Rasta and Bob's beliefs.

    A money grabbing scheme
Sad to see the birth place of this legend turned into a money grabbing scheme by locals. Our tour guide was Captain Crazy and indeed he lived upto his name. Provided little to no useful information about the the legend we didn’t already know. He also made the worst jokes and laughed at them himself. He then insisted on taking money before he let us exit the tour. There was also a mediocre performance by a Marley tribute band you also have to tip. Also some con men outside the house selling marijuana and marijuana products as well as overpriced souvenirs. If you so much as say hi to anybody in the area, they will ask for money.

Amazing Experience! A must for Bob Marley enthusiasts to fully understand his legacy - in Jamaicans and in the world.
Our Driver Jason was the best!! The roads to Nine Mile were hairy in some places, but we felt entirely safe with Jason driving! He was a treasure trove of information on Bob Marley, his legacy with Jamaicans then and now. The actual tour at Nine Mile was with Captain Crazy 😊. He was a really good guide with anecdotes about Bob Marley time there as a kid and adult. Learnt a lot and left with a more ch deeper understanding and love for the LEGEND

    Nine Mile tour
Booked with El Sol Vida Fun tours, was picked up from our hotel and our driver was fabulous, told us about Jamaica history and the local area and was such a lovely guy. The nine miles experience was also great with a friendly informative guide. Would recommend even if your not a Bob marley fan.

    Finally made it
I wanted to visit since a teenager so this was an overwhelming experience for me. It's not cheap to travel from Montego Bay however we used a private taxi for 2 of us. I find the prices of tee-shirt, and other items in line with Jamaica. The guides are good and take time to explain Bob's life, and point out important details. The band playing was very good and enjoyable. If you are a fan of Bob Marley then go to visit.

Get ready to "tip" and be intimidated.
I am more interested to see where Bob Marley was born and now laid to rest. But spoilt by the way you're moved from one area to the next and expected to tip... let me explain. The road up is an hour of winding and pot holed road. You arrive where outside you are ushered by locals into a shack (and im being nice by calling a few bits of wood a shack), where you're offered a menu of marijuana. I understand the culture, but let's say it could be quite intimidating. No wonder why where your ment to be across the street has security guards and an iron gate! Then, you're taken into a bar area. Where the barman starts pushing the drinks on you. I mean pushing. Then. You're entertained by a Marley Band for a few songs. The basket for tips is pointed out to you. Up the hill to where Bob Marley lived and where he is laid to rest. But not without being prayed over in the chapel and where you're asked to tip the priest!! Not finished yet!! It was all very nice touring the small house and the Mausoleums of Bob Marley and his mother's. Back down the hill to a gate where on the back is a poster to tip your guide. Where the guide stands with his hand out! Blatant, in your face, intimidation for money that spoilt a pilgrimage for some.

Probably the worst $60 ($30) each admission fee we've ever spent - add that to the $170 taxi fare there and back and its been a very disappointing day although the taxi driver explained a lot about the country as we travelled through the towns and countryside from Ochos and back, so at least it wasn't a complete waste of time.
Ij a nutshell, when you arrive, having avoided the pot sellers (not the clay variety) on the other side of the road, you first visit a souvenir shop selling nothing more than you can't pick up anywhere else on the island - no idea if they were overpriced as we had no interest in buying any. You then get taken to a holding area with bar where you have to wait 20 mins and get the opportunity to buy overpriced beer and shots. Its here the guide introduces himself - we had the misfortune of having Captain Crazy who had clearly been on the weed for the all morning (and since the age of 10 he later told us) - he added no real value at all and did little more than laughing at his own jokes constantly - funny maybe the first 2 or 3 times because of his laugh but then became no more than an irritant. You then go and see 3 rooms in an old house with family photos and a doll collection Marley's mother made. Then its off to another holding area to listen to a 3 piece band playing a medley of his greatest hits while being tempted to buy more drinks. Once you have been encouraged to tip the band it was up a drive to see a chapel, a very small mausoleum where his mother is laid, another roomed house with a single bed in it (not sure who was supposed to have slept in the bed as Captain Crazy was too off his face to understand) and then finally a small mausoleum where Bob is laid. Then its back down to the exit via yet another souvenir shop providing you have tipped Captain Crazy before he lets you pass through the gate. All the way round, those who indulge are encouraged to smoke weed which seems a right of passage for half those who were on the tour. As we exited, we overheard one couple saying it was the most moving experience of there life - for us it was a complete waste of time and money and I wouldn't go back if they paid me. Not really sure what we were expecting (maybe a few guitars, some memorabilia etc etc) but it certainly wasn't what we ended up with. Unless you want to smoke pot for the duration (including in the mausoleum which stopped 2 people going in because of the smell), save your money and put it to better use with a subscription to Spotify and download his songs for a year. Complete waste of time!

Combined trip to Nine Mile with Dunns River falls so busy day.
The road up to Nine Mile is long, bumpy and hairy and our driver (at times) drove the mini bus like he'd stolen it!
On arrival we were shown to a tatty shack where they were selling eye wateringly priced cannabis products. I know its legal in Jamaica but it was proactively encouraged by guide (not great TUI)
Inside was a bar at the start with drinks that you could walk round with. $5 for a small Red Stripe is going rate in Jamaica
House was OK. You then go into a stage area where a band sing a few Bob Marley songs (very well) and then you climb the hill to Bobs' burial place where shoes have to be removed. Visit about 90 mins.
Well worthwhile. I would recommend it. Drive back to Montego bay by different route with interesting views of, amongst other things, Browns town.
