Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We drive the B1 from Buff Bay (get jerk at Glen’s) to Kingston. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great but when the clouds broke the views were amazing. We stopped at Dennis’s coffee farm and had an amazing cup of coffee before another stop at Holywell and Strawberry Hill. The drive to Kingston took about 3hrs including stops. The road is narrow and a few bits are rough but our rental saloon made it fine; just take bumps carefully. We went back on A3 which is easier and about 40mins quicker.

We where going to Kingston from Ocho Rios, and had taken the road to Kingston starting in Buff Bay.
I definitely recommend you do the same! Very nice scenic road. There are also places to stop and get some original Blue Mountain coffee.
The road isn't too rough, but an SUV is basically mandatory.

In case someone wants to get there by public transportation.
The only way is to mix Public transportation + taxi
1- wake up early, I went around 7 am.
2- Go to Papine market - take bus 68, 78, 77 or a shared taxi for approximately 150 J$
3- Take a share taxi or share bus for Mavis Bank- the guy left me to Mavis Bank Police Station and the police man called a driver for me- Cost 250 J$
4- The taxi driver took me 100 usd to go to the trail departure of blue mountains.

Nice visit within the coffee trees and very insightful learning on the coffee growing and business. Nice area - fresher than the rest of the island so nice to appreciate that weather as well

The long tedious trip up the mountain was terrifying at times and definitely an eye opener. Your passing through some tough places. Once up in those mountains you loose your breath with the beauty that falls on your eyes. You can see everywhere and it’s beautiful. The most coming over and through the valleys tipping the tops on the lower hills and once you’ve cleared the top it’s pure blue sky’s with not a cloud in sight.
Highly recommend to anyone who wants to see the real Jamaica on your way up and the beauty of its glory from the top.

Took a juta tour (Fitzroy best driver) to blue mountain - Old Tavern Coffee Estate, air was refreshing, view was amazing, hike was great excercise. The person to give the tour did not show, so there was a substitute. He gave a great tour, especially when the clouds descended on us. We paid the wrong person, so the tour guide didnt get the tip he deserved. The tour ended with a great cup of coffee. We had lunch on our way down the mountain at Crystal Edge / Cafe Blue. The food was good and view breath taking.

Travelled up the winding road to the Military Base at Newcastle - worth the trip for the view alone albeit a visit to the Military Museum is worthwhile.

The place is specially for the people who love nature and silence. Have few trials to try. But the best place for the relaxation.

Do we need to take a tour to go up the mountains or is it nice to do without a guide? Any and all info/recommendations on tours would be awesome!

I would strongly recommend that you go with a Tour Company. Sun Venture Tours and others exist and should be on-line.
