The castle is very small and badly in ruins, but the location is very scenic and the views from the tower are spectacular. There's a small exhibition about history of Wales in the preserved tower. Best visited on a sunny day when you can just sit on top of the tower, enjoy the scenery, the solitude and soak into the... More

Pretty old and decrepit. Lovely location as regards scenery. Local hotel Elen's Castle serves brilliant food. More

We discovered Dolwyddelan Castle quite by accident enroute from Conwy to Harlech Castle. We rounded a bend in the road, and there it was high above, jutting up into the sky, splendid in its solitude. We stopped on impulse, and it was a quite an adventure climbing up to the castle along a paved sidewalk, up a road, through a... More

This is a small remote keep with amazing views. Visitors access the castle via the farm and climb up through the surrounding fields to the keep. There is something about the isolation and views that make this very special - well worth a visit! More

I visited Dolwyddelan Castle via a walk through Sarn Helen and the Lledr Valley. The car park is situated at Dolwyddelan railway station. From the car park, turn left, then left again over the railway bridge before turning right and heading uphill, past some houses. The lane soon narrows into a track, which you follow and is the line of the Roman road known... More

Dolwyddelan Castle, along with Dinas Bran and Dolbadarn, make up a trio of Welsh castles in North Wales that is not to be missed if you want to avoid crowds and combine your love of history with breathtaking views. Managed by CADW (and the only one of the trio for which one has to pay admission), the castle was built... More

Really enjoyed my visit to this wonderful castle site, you must go to the top of the tower to see just what spectacular scenary awaits you. The castle keep was beautifully restored to its original condition in the 19thc including the incredable battlements too. It has a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere, it just takes you way back in time. A must... More
