As everyone else has said, its best to go early in the day, as it gets very warm, and its a VERY strenous trip up to the top. Drink plenty on the way up, coming down was easy. Views from the top were beautiful!! I didn't think the trek was dangerous---had read that before we went, but I was never... more

Great views from the top, but not that different from the views a third of the way up or halfway up. I thought this was a tall lighthouse built in the water or at the base of the El Faro mountain. It turns out the lighthouse is only 2-1/2 stories tall, but it is very high above the water since... more

Be sure to go before it gets hot and bring not only water but a sports beverage. Wear shoes/sandals with good treads and long pants. I got bit by something. Great view but not worth the effort. Having seen the views from San Francisco and along the Northern California coast and places like Rio de Janeiro, admittedly I'm jaded. more

This is a difficult climb to the very top where the light house actually is, because it's very high (it's the tallest natural lighthouse in the world!) We went up around 8:30 a.m. on March 1. There is a dirt path (watch for rocks and wash outs) and then 300 plus steps. It is well worth the trip up for the views of the city and the ocean. Make sure you bring binoculars so you can see the small black rock in the ocean that the sea... more

The hike up was a bit strenuous, definately not something to plan for the afternoon heat. THe hike up to the lighthouse starts off by the fishing charter docks and is about 1,100 meters walking distance according to a sign at the bottom. Bring water or hope the vendor at the bottom of the hill is open if you plan... more

Climb was strenuous but once reaching the peak where the lighthouse is located the scenic views were great. Pick the morning to climb up and view personal web-site movie at http://www.trymyplace.com/mazatlan/ for a short movie on the subject. more
