We have been to Vallarta 4 or 5 times, and every time we go to Club Roxy at least once. On our first trip we got sucked into those horrible tourist clubs- expensive cover, terrible drinks, etc. UGH!! We were there in June of 06. The club is in oldtown (zona romantica). They have a live band that plays music from raggae, blues, rock to jazz.
