What a hoot! Fun just people watching! I love it that it's not just for tourists but for locals as well. Sure, the water is dirty but it's the Mexican party atmosphere that is so unique! Would do it again more

OK Xochimilco (pronounce Sho-shimil - ko) is a must see in Mexico City and it's a pleasant enough way to wile away an afternoon. But I cannot go along with some of the raves I have read in these reviews - Venice it's not! The canals are small and rather dank, and the continous onslaught of awful mariachi singers, floating trinket salesmen,dugouts... more

This was one of the most fun, interesting activities in Mexico City! We loved this because it was so different than the usual activities. We took public transportation all the way -- be aware that the last stop on the train, the one that goes closest to Xochimilco is under construction so everyone gets off at the second to last... more

I have been to Xochimilco twice and enjoyed it both times. I am now emailing a friend of mine, who is living in Queretaro, Mexico to tell her to take her family there. What can I say...I enjoyed the entire experience and would do it again in a heartbeat! I don't know where she got the dishonest people, but I... more

I took my 7 yr old daughter to Mexico City in June 07, we rode the subway ALL the way to Xochimilco. Took forever, but gave us a good look at "real" people. Riding the boats was fascinating. It's a floating party with food, jewelry, flower salesmen and musicians hopping from boat to boat selling their wares. Many local families,... more

Xochimilco is a really fun place to visit. You rent a trajinera, we paid about $20 USD for 16 people for about 2 hours (Prices are generally per boat, not per person. You can see the list of official prices at [--] and the boatman will slowly pole the trajinera through the canals. You do NOT have to buy the... more

Very beautiful and scenic trajinera ride. Many different canals, just be sure to select a canal that will suit your needs. Colorful boats and wonderful music. Ride was just right to enjoy a picnic on the trajinera. more

Gliding around the canals of Xochimilco is a don't miss destination. The fun of the mariachis, the food and beer vendors is a great escape from the city. My suggestion: take a tour with a reputable agency (best through your hotel concierge); not only will you not be "taken" by any unscrupulous "guides" if you are on your own but... more

We read repeatedly that this was a "don't miss" destination. We took a subway, then a streetcar from the Zocolo district of Mexico City. It was a very easy, inexpensive (40 cents) and pleasant ride. When we got there, we found no directions to the canals. One guy approached us, and pointed us in the right direction. On arrival, he... more

We took in this attraction as part of a Sunday tour of Mexico City. I had no idea what to expect before arrival: it was just boarded as boat ride. This has to be one of the most surreal experiences. Hundreds of multicoloured punts with a refectory table and seats jostle for position in a canal which was part of... more
