Monte Alban is a Toltec complex over a thousand years old. Very impressive, with great views of Oaxaca valley. I would recommend taking a taxi rather than a tour since a tour would charge much more and would probably not give you enough time to really enjoy this great place. Monte Alban ruins are quite impressive! The view is outstanding and delightfully breathtaking (especially after climbing the stairs!) I can certainly see why they picked this location in 500BC as you couldn't get any closer to the gods! We took one of the tours to Monte Alban. It is a good way to hear the history. However, don't take the tour bus back. It is easy to take one of the collectivo taxis back. The tours do not allow enough time at Monte Alban. There are many trails at Monte Alban with alot of flowers and birds. One... more
