Pilar´s cooking classes, held in La Casa de Los Sabores (House of Flavors), are set in her spacious, newly remodeled traditionally styled Oaxacan kitchen. In a warm and inviting atmosphere, you will learn to create the traditional Oaxacan dishes of your choice, made famous throughout Mexico and spreading worldwide. Shared and private classes include an explanation about the ingredients, a tour to the local market, hand-made meal preparation, mezcal tasting and, of course, the five course meal you prepared which you get to enjoy at the end of the class. Pilar will teach you her family´s generations-old cooking secrets so you can learn and enjoy a Oaxacan culinary legacy. « less

I had never taken a cooking class before, but my cousin, who is in the food industry, talked me into taking a cooking class in Oaxaca when we were there. We chose La Casa de los Sabores Coooking School. We met at the restaurant where Ninfa, the sinstructor, asked us our food preferences, and then walked to the mercado (market)... More

Fun is a word that comes to mind. A great learning experience and insight into the unique cuisine of Oaxaca. And Oaxacan cooking is unique because it is complex with pre-hispanic elements and uses the indigenous plants found only in Oaxacan climate(s). Pilar has a degree in food chemistry and working experience in the field. She is a chef specializing... More

My friend and I have taken many cooking classes while on travels and did some research for this one. Pilar is the perfect combination of professional, knowledgable, approachable, friendly and genuine. At the start of class she asked us all about our food preferences to make sure the menu she had planned for us was amenable to our group of... More

We met at the bed and breakfast to a small group. After shopping in the market we came back and all had a part in cooking the meal. Pillar was educational and entertaining, The food turned out wonderful and I never felt rushed. This was something I could mark off my "bucket list" and am so glad I did it... More

We loved this class! Pillar is a gifted teacher. There are other cooking classes offered in Oazaca, but choose this one. You won't be disappointed. The class is small, and there was just the right balance of participation, instruction and tasting. We learned how to shop at the local market, and how to cook. We also learned a lot about... More

This was my third time taking a class with Pilar, two group classes and one solo; all three were (a) thoroughly enjoyable, and (b) terrific learning experiences. You don't have to be an expert to participate - you can get as involved as you want. Some participants can't wait to start chopping, while others prefer to stand back and observe... More

My husband and I learned to Pilar Cabrera's cooking school, Casa de los Sabores from an article in Toronto's Globe & Mail. Last year, Pilar was in Toronto to cook mexican dishes with chef, Bonnie Stern. We had planned to spend two months in Oaxaca this winter and decided to sign up for the class on 100% Maiz appetizers and... More

You can't miss Pilar's cooking classes if you're interested in Oaxacan cuisine!! She is a great teacher and a great chef (check out La Olla if you don't have time for a class) and she keeps her students entertained throughout the entire class. We had 10 students in our class and it was perfect; we all actively participated in preparing... More
