A gem in the middle of cargo containers. Very interesting history and architecture. Our guide was very good, but strict about keeping us close by. Not good walking(difficult) for some seniors(especially). It will be a real tourist attraction in about 5-10 years, when the canal is finished. It was very neat a must see if visiting veracruz ! Did you know that romancing the stone was filmed there. more

I visited the fort for research material for my historical novel, the war with Mexico (1846-1848). The fort was attacked on 4 occasions: by the Americans in 1847 and 1914 (which was news to me), by the French in 1864 (while we were busy with the Civil War) and a fourth time which I do not recall.
