The beach water at Progreso is what I expected... you can see the nice blue and at the same time a lil bit of the gulf of mexico is mixed in yet very fun to swim in! The beach is beautiful..white sand... now they have all types of shops to buy souvenirs...bargain as much as possible. The seafood is great,... more

On our recent Carnival Holiday cruise, our plan for Progreso was to take the free shuttle to town and then walk to the beach. After going through the initial terminal on the pier, the free shuttle buses were on the left. We loaded up and the bus took us to Progreso. The ride was uneventful. You can see the beach... more

I went to Progreso 2 years ago on a Carnival Cruise and i was very pleased with my experience there. The town is somewhat small, and not very touristy. You definately find true Mexico culture there. The locals are nice, and the beaches were beautiful. There are also 20-30 min cab rides into the old city of Merida. Me and... more

How you feel about Progreso depends on what you want. If you're looking for smart eating places, elegant shops & sophistication, you'll be disappointed. If you want to see a small, typical port/beach resort, Progreso is for you. The 'resort' really consists of the road that runs along the beach. It has a wide range of eateries that vary in... more

I'm not sure how the below posters could have found beauty in Progreso. We arrived by Carnival Cruise Line to Progreso a few weeks ago as our second Port of Call. Being Texans we compared the ocean water and beaches to Galveston...very filthy. The water was murky brown. We disembarked and walked down a short pier to a very small... more

We visited Progreso from March 12 to 16, 2007. We really enjoyed this beautiful coastal town. I couldn't believe that I hadn't heard about it sooner. It is loaded with Mexican charm and doesn't have an over commercialized feel. The beaches are beautiful and very few tourists around. We ate at several restaurants on the Malecon and enjoyed them all.... more

For many years I have been telling my wife " one day we are going to retire in Mexico". She would always say, " anywhere but Mexico". Last December I was finaly able to convince her to take a trip to Progreso. We found a couples website that had moved their family to Progreso 7 years ago and eventually opened... more

I was only able to be in Progresso for a few hours, it was one of our stops for Carnival Cruise Lines. I can actually say that I enjoyed this place alot better then our other stops...it was really down to earth, lots of set up shops to buy things, I would love to come back here and just hang... more

5 years ago we left the cold of Colorado and Canada for a little known Mexican hideaway. With our 2 teenagers, 2 dogs and 3 cats we setout for our new home. Progreso has given us everything it promised. Warm weather, warm people and a great new lifestyle. Today Progreso is still reltively unknown and continues to be a real... more

Almost three years ago now my wife and I "discovered" Progreso. It took us exactly 10 minutes to decide that we wanted to spend more than the three days we had left on our vacation. We love the water, which is the Gulf of Mexico not the Caribbean, the town but most of all the friendly people. Four months later... more
