Charming area to walk around and do some people watching. Nice Restaurants and bars, great little stores and a nice ambience overall. Unless you are a boring person, you will really enjoy this experience. Go at night time, it is less hot and is when must people visits. Have a great time! more

DON'T SHOP AT PLAZA DEL FIESTA/MEXICAN OUTLET! We have been to Playa del Carmen many times and the shopping area is right next door to our hotel. There are a lot of nice stores but this is NOT one of them! Tonight my husband and I went to this store. The personnel were joking in spanish about the tourists, calling... more

I visited Playa del Carmen w/my 13 y/o daughter, and we enjoyed Avenida 5 a lot. If I had been there with my husband or girlfriends it still would have been a good spot. Our hotel was just one block off, on the beach, so we were here every day. Many different shops and restaurants at varying prices and levels... more

Lots of pedestrian traffic from 3pm onwards. No cars allowed. Lots of friendly merchants not unaccustomed to bargaining. They take pesos and US $. I never saw this place Pre-Wilma but I would have trouble seeing where there was any damage. it seemed like business as usual. more

Avenida Quinta is a must see for anyone going to Playa, especially first time visitors. Do yourself a favor while you're on the street and just take a step back. Watch how people are walking. You'll notice they're all just strolling along, relaxed and happy as can be. Quite the change of pace from our normal hurried lifestyles, Playa is... more

Very nice place to walk through for a day or even more. Many shops, some high end. Many restaurants and bars. The street goes from high end then to lower end and then to a very modern and luxurious area. Don't miss it, one of the best attractions in Mexico! more

A great time, the Americans will love it, the Canadians might and the europeans will find it loud and annoying. This place is a blast, with clubs and resturantes everywhere. Street music and shows and tons of shops to look in. Lots of Bargins to be had and lots of fun. Vendors do not hassel you and when they asked... more

I spent a week over there with my boyfriend. We've been to the town quite a number of times during our stay, for shopping and transportation. When buying things, use PESOS instead of US. It's abt 10% difference. Exchange rates are better at Scotia Bank (next to McDonalds). They have a central bus station to Cancun departing very frequently for... more

My wife and I were in Playa del Carmen for 1 week. We stayed at a great resort, Club El Mandarin. We walked around town on 2 seperate days during our vacation. The first day, it was a little bit overwhelming dealing with the merchants. We found the male store merchants somewhat rude and obnoxious, and did not really enjoy... more
