Tulum is a beautiful mayan site right on the ocean. The magesty of the ruins with the natural beauty of the lush trees and the tranquil beach combine to create a picture-perfect site. My wife and I took a half-day trip from Barcelo resort over to the ruins at Tulum. We had already been to Ek Balam. This was a totally different experience and completely different ruins. Very pretty, dramatic ruins on the coast. I went around 7:30 am and saw no one else until around 9 am, when large tours groups arrived. The only downside is that you have to stay on marked paths and cannot get very close to any of the ruins. more

the first place the tour takes you is a Mayan gift shop to purchase Mayan jewels, etc. The price are more than double. When you purchase a ring they have no idea what size it is and just make it up so you purchase it. The tour itself was beautiful but the best way to see it is to rent... more
