One of the reasons why I stayed one month longer in Barra de Navidad was the opportunity to experience Semana San Patricio (St. Patrick's Day goes on for a week in Melaque...technically, San Patricio). The local residents honor their patron saint with a week long carnival and nightly fireworks displays that are set off from a three storey castillo. Once... more

La Paloma is arguably the best bet in Melaque. A beach front property with just 9 rooms all with kitchen facilities set in a delightful garden setting is just three blocks from the center of town and is a perfect place to spend a few days. Be warned though that the place gets booked ahead of time so reservations are... more

Recently my sister retired from teaching and travelled to Melaque for 4 months. She and my brother-in-law kindly asked my husband and I down for a week to "assess" the place as she is aware that I have travelled all the continents but Australia. I have never wanted to go to Mexico but I am now wishing my life away.... more

The comments made about the dogs in Melaque are appliccable to anywhere in Mexico. It is too bad for someone to write a report about a very friendly town where you are treated very well by the Nationals as well as the "Gringo" population there, basing it on a situation which is prevalent anywhere in Mexico. The animals that writer... more

I spent 4 days here recently. It was my third visit to this area. Melaque is growing. I was amazed by the addition of the PAVED seawalkway to the NEW restaurant on the little "island" on the north side of the beach! They are still working on it but it looks like it will be a neat place to watch... more

Hotel Hidalgo in Melaque. a tiny, clean, well maintained and very, very cheap hotel. Half a block from the beach, close to almost everything around town, but far enough to avoid all bustle and hustle (not that there's much). Cannot avoid the church bells ringing. I think the whole town could hear those. i speak spanish fluently and this may... more

Not too big, clean, right on the beach, good restaurant right next door, handy to an Internet cafe, cambio, and bank, great breakfast right across the street (Harvey's) -- very comfortable and relaxing except on weekends when all the Guadalajara families move in. We spent 3 1/2 weeks and loved it! more
