Avoid this if you can. Seems like such a random location and is really out of place. Ample parking for the hoards in the summer!
In order to reach the Athabasca Glacier on a snow coach, you need to visit this place to buy tickets (if they are already not bought by your tour organiser). The place is always choc-a-block with tourists waiting in long queues. The people at the counter are always smiling and are always willing to help you out should you face... More
Not really necessary to enjoy the beauty of the glaciers. It was included with our tour so we went but people in gift shop were not that friendly. The Brewster bus driver was okay but we did not learn anything new. It was just about getting out and actually walking about on a glacier.
When we visited the Icefield Centre in Oct, it was in the middle of a renovation which will undoubtedly improve the centre no end. But for the time that we visited, it was grossly inadequate for finding out anything about the Athabasca Glacier which is located directly over the road.
I booked what I thought would be a small tour company and ended up on a brewster's bus with a guy who didn't know what he was talking about and made these really lame jokes. This is one of those things that you can tick off on your to do list to impress others. You spend about 20 minutes standing... More
It was perhaps a bit pricey but overall a must do. We were there in the early fall and it wasn't too busy so that helped make it a pleasant experience as well. The trucks you go,out on are pretty cool and the guides seemed like a good bunch of kids. You don't get much time out there but it... More
Unless you intend to be a polar adventurer, this was a really neat way to experience a glacier. The bus tour was fun, not overwhelming but we had a great tour guide who brought the entire setting to life. If you're going there you need to take the bus; you'll see more than walking about.
The view from this Centre is terrific and the opportunity to be on a glacier is worth the cost. The food at the center is lackluster maybe because we were there at the end of September and end of season. This is a "Do Not Miss"
We visited this facility on October 10th and found that it is showing it's age. The maintenance could be picked up a bit and the exhibits refreshed. The ice excursion is not what it used to be, the glacier is retreating fast. So you better hurry!
