Visiting Barkerville was a hit with my wife, our 8-year old, our 2-year old, and me. First we took the guided tour of the town. The guide leads visitors around the town and speaks with three different staff members dressed in period costume. Barkerville is up there with Plimoth Plantation as a remarkable working settlement. We arrived on a soggy cold day but the experience we had was a true delight. We travelled the Cariboo Gold Rush Trail through the Fraser Canyon on our way to Barkerville. The town is beautifully restored and has lots of fun features such as a stage coach ride, gold panning and wonderful entertainment in the Gold Rush style theatre. We made a detour of approximately 800km to visit Barkerville, and were not disappointed. The period buidlings are extremely well restored, and the costumed actors are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The free guided tours of the town are also excellent. Stay a night at the St George Hotel to cap your experience. more
