This is a wonderful museum with well-arranged exhibits of the art of First Nations peoples. We visited on a day when the museum was packed with school children and so were able to get snippets from their tours. The totem poles and baskets were incredible. I know that a good portion of the museum is still being organized, but what... more

My wife and I loved this museum when we visited it years ago. It felt like a real museum then, with a wonderful mix of large displays and drawers of smaller artifacts -- a place that a serious academic or an Indiana Jones wanna-be would enjoy. Now, it feels like a high society reception hall, with an implicit emphasis on... more

Our party of 3 adults visited the museum in July 2009. After seeing it called a "must see" by many websites and guide books, we were a bit disappointed in its size. We did not realize that it contained a relatively small collection of First Nations artifacts, one individual's ceramics collection, and nothing else except a special exhibit of photos.... more

(Closed Sep - Mar 2 for Renovations) The Museum's website indicates 50% expansion and complete redesign of the space and exhibits. Italian company is designing the display cases - same company used for Louvre, Tower of London, Dead Sea Scrolls, etc. I am looking forward to returning to see the (new) Museum. (Note: I did not visit but rated excellent... more

This was touted to be such a great museum that we were very disappointed. The collections were quite limited, with a few unpainted totem poles inside and outside, and a Chinese ceramic exhibit, and that was it. This would have been better if there had been some explanation about each piece or the pieces in general, and believe it or... more

We enjoyed our visit and I would recommend this museum with caveats. One is that it is difficult to get to without a car. If you don't have a car, I don't think it is worth coming out here unless you have a special interest in the collection or building. The second caveat is that this museum has very limited... more

The Museum of Anthropology is pretty small but very educational in learning about 1st Nation (Native Americans in US is 1st Nation in Canada). I also learned a lot about china and ceramics. more

Incredible! First Nations carvings, history, artifacts, this is a world class museum. For what it houses, what you expect , it's on par with the British Museum, London. If you are interested in the First Nations or just like museums, don't miss this. There were lots of small children, heads back, eyes up , "oooing" "aaahing" at the totem poles.... more

I spent about two hours at the Anthropology Museum, and I loved it. I took about a half hour bus ride from Robson Street (we took the UBC line) to the campus, and then it was a ten or fifteen minute walk to the museum itself--the museum is across campus from the bus stop. The time it took to get... more

It is easy to appreciate the significance of the collections at the MOA however, the display of these artifacts is difficult to navigate and for us it was a deterrent to enjoying the museum. Most of the artifacts are in visible storage cases which include drawings of the 'outlines' of each artifact with a number inside. (In other words, as... more
