The castle has gone through a lot of changes since its first intention was for the family. There were knowledgeable people there who were happy to divulge their secrets. I was impressed with the history. It was sad that it started out with so much acerage and ended up with so little. It was one of the best side adventures... more

A stuffy and depressing looking Victorian-style mansion built by Robert Dunsmuir, a late 19th century coal baron. I took the ferry from mainland Vancouver to Victoria without bringing my vehicle - which turned out to be a huge mistake. Lots of stairs and walking, not handicap accessible but worth it. The wood work and stained glass are beautiful. It is $ 14.00 per person to get in. You can access it from one of the stops of the Hop on and Off Bus tours. more

Victoria is the most beautiful city and this has to be the most beautiful house in it! Still in the process of restoration but there is a lot that has been done and it is an amazing site to see. I would like to go back in a few years to see what they have accomplished with the grounds. more

The self guided tour only takes about an hour, but it is fun, and interesting. The castle has lots of antiques and you are allowed to take photos. more

Tourist trap. Its only worth if you have never seen a castle before in your lifetime. It is just a big house. more

Like most American/Canadian "Castle's", it's still in the process of being rehabbed. Had some neat stuff but wasn't too drastically different than others in various cities such as the James J Hill House. If it's your type of thing, you'll enjoy it. more

We walked to Craigdarroch Castle from Wharf Street--a good 30-40 minute walk. I wouldn't recommend walking, but it was doable. We took a bus back ($2.50 each), caught one block over on Yates St. The castle is in a beautiful neighborhood. It's a self-guided tour, though there are guides on each floor to give you details.
