I started at the Battery Rd entrance, which winds through an eclectic assortment of small houses on the water, to the trail. The trail itself is right on the cliffs and can be treacherous if you're not paying attention or if it's wet. There are wooden walkways in some areas but one spot with a chain fixed to the rocks... more

This is a nice little stop off. I would not allow a huge amount of time for it. It has really nice views, both out over the ocean and back into the city. I don't know how you would get up to the top of the hill without a car, but if you have a car it is a fairly... more

If you are going to be in St. John's, Signal Hill is a great place to go. You can get some great pictures of the ocean and of the city. The pictures of the city are ten times better at night with the lights and whatnot but I would recommend going to Signal Hill in the day because of the... more

This historic site is operated by Parks Canada and features Cabot Tower that contains many displays of the early Marconi transatlantic communication. On the second floor, in addition to displays, is the amateur radio station of the Society of Newfoundland Radio Amateurs, VO1AA. After seeing pictures of this place for months it was amazing to land in St John's on a long weekend in May in the pouring rain and finally see Signal Hill. A few days later we went up there as we were staying south if St John's in Tors Cove and it was also a blustery day but not raining.... more
