About
The Hector Heritage Quay is home to the full size replica Ship Hector--the first ship to bring emigrants directly from Scotland to Nova Scotia in 1773. The site consists of an Interpretive Centre telling the story of the Hector settlers, a blacksmith shop, rigging room and carpenters shop. Visitors are able to step on board the ship and experience the voyage of these early settlers.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice display with lots of recreations and info about the settlers and the voyage. Creative advertising was as much a thing even centuries ago as now. Unfortunately the ship itself is under reconstruction on the pier so you can not go aboard. You can walk right up to her and see her from the outside.

Wonderful display of Hector's history. Unfortuantley the ship is no longer there. They are in the process of trying to build another one not sure when it'll be ready, maybe 2024.

The history of the Hector is fascinating. It brought Scottish settlers from all walks of life to make Pictou their home in New Scotland, Nova Scotia.

Great history! A good reminder of how much our quality of life has improved since our ancestors settled the area in challenging circumstances! Hopefully they can finish refurbishing the re- production ship. Hard to believe that 200 people crossed the Atlantic in something that size

What a treat to see the Hector as it is being restored by a highly skilled team of artisans. The carvings which will adorn the Hull are true works of art. Wish we could have stayed in Pictou all day!

We came here on a rainy day and it was a perfect way to spend some time in Pictou. The museum is a self guided walk and the exhibits are numbered. Lots of reading and very informative. There is a film and you can walk out around the ship afterwards. The gift shop is cute but expensive as most attached gift shops are.

Signage is all about first Scots arriving in Canada but no mention of honouring Indigenous people who had to cede territory. Wake up Canada!

An excellent historical site that has been updated over the years. The staff are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and the displays on all 3 floors take you through the hardships that caused the Scots to undertake a perilous crossing of the Atlantic and seek a new life here. The community was deeply involved in the building and launching of the replica of the Hector 30 years ago and the ship has now been lifted onto the land behind the Museum for further repairs and restoration. Well worth a visit.
