I am not the first person reviewing Polar Bear Express. It looks like at least half of reviewers were disappointed. And I agree with a lot of what they wrote. But I also disagree with a lot. First and most important: do you research and plan your trip! I did and I this is why I avoided disappointment. It is... More

We just got back from the Polar Bear Express July 2011. The first disappointment was when we arrived at Cochrane and learned that the Polar bear had died. The Station Inn was a very nice, clean room and the restaurant great as well. The train ride was great - we enjoyed the singer, the food was wonderful and very reasonable.... More

This train ride seems to be well-known among travelers, so my wife and I assumed that it would be a real treat. It was not! The ride takes 6 hours each way and all you see is trees, trees, and more trees, with an occasional stream or lake. We hoped to see moose or deer or bear - there was... More

We took the train and it was awesome. A true adventure. Not a luxury ride, but well worth it! Everyone was so nice and we would do it again in a heartbeat. More

My daughter and I took the the Polar Bear Express last summer and what a unique train trip! The train took us to the edge of the James Bay coast in Northern Ontario! The train ride itself was great! There was entertainment available, great hot meals (breakfast, lunch and supper) (the pickerel dinner is fantastic!), a dome car, a family... More

This is NOT thre trip you will expect, especially if you listen to the ONR (Ontario Northland Rail). There are significant train delays due to track maintenance. The train ride is BRUTAL, dirty, noisey, rough on the body. The museums are closed in Moosonee. There is NOT much to see/do/buy/experience in Moosonee. First Nations crafts: next to nil. Postcards: nil.... More

We took the Polar Bear Express several summers ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. The train trip itself, while uneventful, was comfortable. Yes, there's a bit of shake and rattle, but remember, this is northern Ontario. Winters are harsh and long, and this track is well-used. The trip opened our eyes to a part of our province that is seen by... More

Finally took the packaged tour Summer 2008, and the best thing I can say about the experience is that I have now crossed it off my list of "things to see". The train ride is a supposed 6 hours but ours was much longer with delays (both ways). The train is comfortable enough, with lots of leg room, a bar,... More

I took the trip in 2004. Going up above the tree line is pretty neat and it gives you an insight into the far north of Ontario. My favourite part was actually touring Moosenee and Moose Factory with Two Bay Tours. If you are considering the trip, I'd advise staying over in Moosenee rather than doing the trip up and... More

My wife and I rode the Polar Bear Express in July 2005. We had made this trip back in 1973 with our two small children and had a good time. We thought that after 32 years there would be more to see and do - not less! The four hour train ride was uncomfortable as the track seems in need... More
