This is a beautiful place, a nice slice of Canadian history - and there is no admission charge! We are well-versed in Canadian history and learned quite a bit on the tour. The gardens alone are worth strolling through.

We had visited Rideau Hall back in 1965 when the Annual Governor General Garden Party (G.G. Georges Vanier) was accessible by "invitation only". I wanted to visit this site and get a tour. They will not offer tours in the off season, unles you have a group of 10.
Some people can not make it to Ottawa during the simmer due to work. I was able to tour the Betune house with a group of less than 10

The grounds are nice, the Governor General Guards are on display at the entrance and the house is impressive but basically there is not that much to see. Go if the grounds are open.

If you like to skate, don't miss out on skating on the rink at Rideau Hall. It is open on weekends in the winter. Beautiful setting to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
