This museum is easily located in the heart of old Montreal. There was a very good historical movie which starts your tour - where the archeological dig comes alive. The museum is expanding to include a site across the street from the main building and will also be hosting some interesting exhibits soon - one on the Samurais. They also... More

This museum has so much to see. I love the underground that shows us the foundation of the buildings. The history of the city. A must see. More

There is plenty of substance & a great insight into Montreal's history at this museum but it is in the presentation that this museum truly shines. It is incredibly well thought out from the initial multi-media film to the uncovered graves & ruins that you actually walk through. The people who work there seem to be genuinely attached to Montreal... More

A great place to understand Montréal's history. But the restaurant on the top floor is something else. Amazing food (entrée, main course, dessert and coffee) for CND$60! And you can get a nice view from the city. More

Your experience begins with a multi-media show in a theater that includes actual city ruins as the floor. The presentation can be heard in French or English, to get your cross-cultural juices flowing. (The language is aimed at grade-schoolers--try the French, you might get it if you've had any training in the language at all!) Most of the acreage is... More

I found it really neat that they built a museum around a section of what is left of the fortress that once surrounded Montreal. There is an introductory film which explains some of the history, though I wasn't clear on exactly what we were seeing as we walked through the museum. It does require reading as you walk through, but... More

a really neat archeaological dig site, as it is completely inside, basically the basement of the building which houses it... the tour was interesting, very biased (pro french anti england) but informative, even if it was slanted. More

This is a rare museum that focuses on the layers of history on display through the achaeological digs. It is fascinating, but would highly recommend seeing it with a tour guide to be able to understand all the different things you are seeing. More
