Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life even for just a few minutes? This abbey is the place. Built during the Great Depression, silence, prayer or, if you are lucky, the sound of gregorian chant. Don't forget to stop by the store to get some of their award winning cheese. Please be respectful of the... More

This Benedectine Abbey is in a setting which seems European, at the edge of Lake Memphremagog. The Gregorian Chant should not be missed, at High Mass, daily. Check website for times. The little shop sells cheese, cider and other items made by the monks at the Abbey, and also has a good selection of CD's of Gregorian Chant. More

Went in April 2012. We love the Abbey a lot. Peaceful. Go in early fall and get apples. They grow their own apples and make the jellies, cheeses, and chocalates. They sell the Chants of the Benedictin Monks. Not sure how many Monks live there, but the Abbey is worth it More

The abbey church is a jewel, both architecturally and acoustically. I particularly enjoy Gregorian chants by the monks, and some astounding organ performances.Otherwise, the grounds are fantastic, and so are the local products – cheese (many kinds), apple products, cider, etc. Some people also go there for a recluse experience in a monk's cell (I haven't). No trip to Quebec Province should be made without a visit to St. Benoit du Lac. Located on beautiful Lake Memphremagog, you are surrounded by beauty and holiness. Don't just pop in and run. Stay for a day and absorb the contemplative atmosphere and listen to the divine sounds of the monks singing their offices. See if you can go... More

Saint-Benoît-du-Lac is the proper name and is a Cistertian abbey and follows the rules edicted by Saint Benedict. So it is a cloistered monastery and you must expect that not all of the place is for you to roam around. Most is reserved for the monks and their farm and other special needs. The original monastery was build by a... More

One of the main things I’d wanted to do during our trip to the Eastern Townships was visit the Saint Benedict Abbey. I wasn’t disappointed. The grounds and the abbey are beautiful and impart a real feeling of serenity. The 11:00 Mass, which is celebrated in Gregorian chant, is open to the public and should be attended by anyone visiting,... More

A must visit for a both a day trip and over nightstays. Clean quiet and godly with several catholic services a day if you like and there is even a chance for you to eat with the monks in total silence. Plenty of surrounding abbey land to walk, prey or mediate on. I have stayed here over 30 times. More
