The SS Atlantic was the second ship of the White Star Line, the same company responsible for the equally ill-fated Titanic. Our site tells the tragic story of this disaster through interpretive panels and recovered artifacts. There is also a memorial for the victims, which is located in our beautiful seaside park. Light snacks and crafts by local artists are available for purchase. « less

“An Unexpected Surprise”

We first stumbled upon the Heritage Park April 2011, with 2 other couples, in the pouring rain. Had never heard of the SS Atlantic, although it was the worst sea disaster prior to the Titanic! The park with it's memorial, information signs, and boardwalk is a don't miss! We spent an hour in the Pioneer Cemetery reading the stones and... More
