The small island of Burano is in my opinion, one of Venice's best attractions. It is a very beautiful fishing village. The home owners have to submit a request to the city for permission to paint their house. They are then given an option of bright colors to choose from. Burano is the best! Very relaxed atmosphere. Nice to just walk through the town and look at all of the colorful homes and buildings. If you love to take photos, this is the place to go. Go at the end of the day, as it is quieter and the reflections are amazing. If on you own, visit Verano first and this later. No tour needed. Just hop on a vaparetto and wander to your hearts content. Other than the vaparetto fare, totally free. More

The Vaparetto will get you out and around all the islands (Murano is on the way) but Burano is well worth the visit. Get a Venice Card for transport.
