- Tracey N3 contributionsWedding Celebration!Went to a wedding celebration here and Wow! What a place, it is extremely beautiful with lovely walks around the area. The staff are amazing and very friendly, it is well worth a visit and finding out about the history of the place! The Hogroast was organised by a company called Pickled Pumpkin, Excellent food and service.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 June 2023
- Heather W1 contributionHighly recommendedWhat an interesting and peaceful place; a wildlife haven amongst the hustle and bustle of Bristol. We had the 90 minute introductory tour (booked online through their website), which covered everything we wanted to know. Our guide was brilliant; she was lovely, very knowledgeable, provided very interesting information and answered all the questions we had. They do various tours, including a night time bat tour, and I will certainly be going on another one in the future. There is limited parking in the cemetery but we parked easily. We also had some lovely cake and coffee in the cafe. The whole cemetery and cafe seating area outside (under cover) is dog friendly too.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 July 2023
- T H10 contributionsCurious?Highly recommend the Morbid Curiosity tour. Our guide was Emily who was a font of knowledge. Engaging, informative and passionate about her subject! A really enjoyable evening and something different for a Friday night! Will definitely be trying the other tours on offer.Visited August 2023Written 18 August 2023
- KimberleyVlaardingen, The Netherlands97 contributionsLoved it!We absolutely loved the 'morbid curiosity' tour! Emily was a wonderful guide and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. We've loved every minute of it. If we're ever back in Bristol we'd love to try one of the other tours as well.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 September 2023
- claire b9 contributionsGreat tourDid a Murder, Mystery and Mayhem tour with Charlotte . Great evening . Very experienced guide in this and “did I mention “other cemeteries . Lots of references to local places in Bristol where murders and hangings took place . Take a touch if not going in the summer .Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 24 September 2023
- mrsnat125 contributionsBook a tour or wander round, a superb place to be!A proper booked tour is definitely the way to go!! Charlotte our guide was so knowledgeable and fun, friendly and quirky giving our gang exactly what we needed from the tour. Then Elspeth at the shop capped it all off with some extras and again, was so enthusiastic and helpful. What a lovely afternoon. Thank you so much!Visited October 2023Travelled on businessWritten 8 October 2023
- LeeWimborne Minster, United Kingdom25 contributionsCharlotte was a star!Charlotte was the poor guide given the challenge of a tour with members of the death care industry. But alas, it was no problem for her, she adapted the tour to suit our needs and we came away having learnt a lot more than we already knew. She has a genuine passion for her subject matter and has conducted a lot of research. She clearly identifies what is 100% fact and the ‘maybes’. I could have quite happily had the tour go on for longer with no signs of any boredom. The cemetery is stunning and a lot of history, well maintained and good facilities - cafe was good with nice coffee and even the vegan carrot cake looked good. Spent some money in the gift shop too. Definitely need to return to do some of the other tours available.Visited October 2023Travelled on businessWritten 9 October 2023

It was so much fun learning about the gory details of the past as well as learning some local history! We spent the next day visiting all the spots around Bristol Charlotte had mentioned - the photos attached is where we think the gallows were!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023

Myself and my partner attended the Love tour last evening as something different and affordable to do for Valentine's Day. We had already been to Arnos Vale before, both independently and as part of the Murder, Mystery and Mayhem tour back in November. Charlotte is a brilliant guide, clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about Arnos Vale and cemeteries in general. It's a lovely way to spend an hour, would definitely recommend if you are interested in history and looking for something a bit more on the unusual side to do in Bristol! I'm sure we will be back for more tours/general visits :) thank you!

This place is special. You can walk around at your leisure and there's lots to explore. It's basically an overgrown cemetery, but it's packed with historic structures and some of the gravestones are equisite.

Absolutely fascinating tours!! I’ve done two, Emily took the Morbid Curiosity tour and Charlotte took the Murder and Mayhem tour. Both hosts were super knowledgeable and entertaining with the history and stories. I found the details around diseases and pathology really interesting, likewise the stones and monuments and what they represent. I was fascinated in the tales of how people died and who is buried there. It is a privilege to be able to view all this history and be transported into a bygone time. I would recommend to anyone who wants to be immersed in the rich and dark history of our city Cemetery.

Is it possible to cycle around the cemetery, or do I need to leave my bike at the entrance (i.e. only walking is allowed in the grounds)?

Cycling is impossible, the paths are narrow, steep and uneven.

Where is the best place to park near the cemetery ?
Martin T
Bristol, UK18 contributions
There's limited parking in the Cemetery but always worth trying that first depending on how busy it is. If you aren't able to park there then the main road opposite the entrance has some parking as do the nearby side streets. At worst you'll have a 3-4 minute walk but Arnos Vale is worth it!
If all else fails then there's parking nearby in the shopping area by McDonalds by the traffic lights opposite Arnos Hotel - 5 mins.
