We visited Arnos Vale cemetery recently and were completely captivated by the place. It is so quiet, peaceful and beautiful and seems a world away from the bustle of Bristol outside its gates. Apart from the stunning woodland walks, there is an informative exhibition in what was formerly the crematorium. There are three leaflets detailing different walks and we started... More

This cemetery is found just off the A4, and it is a hidden gem of a space. Having fallen into disrepair for decades, it now looks like a Burton-esque, gothic masterpiece, with trees pushing forth between the gravestones. Well-laid and maintained paths wend their way through the woods, giving you occasional glimpses across the city, and wonderful vistas through the... More

Went with the better half and 2 grandchildren for a look around.A great place to visit and a stop in the coffee shop should not be missed.Toilets are good but bear in mind you are now in the downstairs part of the old crematorium??. this part may not suit all people. More

With the lottery fund this is more than just a cemetery, it is a lovely quiet place to walk, with mature trees and views over the city. Parking can be a bit of an issue though. More

If you think this is just rows of headstones, you're wrong. There's winding paths, crumbling stone covered in ivy, birds and animals everywhere and a sense of the serene. Yes, it's a graveyard but it's not spooky or oppressive. It's lovely. More

This is one of those secret treasures everyone should find. A fascinating story of the people who created Victorian Bristol, told on thousands of gravestones, both grand and humble, reachy via leafy walks. The new caff is excellent, too. More

Rating a cemetery is hard, but the grounds are being cleared and the cemetery is looking good. Was able to find a grave that had been completely overgrown, but the staff were very helpful in helping me locate it. More

I do not actually like the idea of cemetery, but Arnos Vale is a very nice place to walk around, very relaxing indeed. There is an exhibition about cremation (if you are interested), lot of trees and flowers. More

It is worth spending an hour or so exploring this beautiful cemetery in the heart of Bristol. Buy a guidebook to help you find the graves of diverse Bristolians including Mary Carpenter (social reformer), George Muller (orphanage founder), Billy Wedlock (footballer), the Wills family (cigarette makers and philanthropists) and Horace Batchelor (football pools expert of Radio Luxembourg fame).
