- Kate HLondon, United Kingdom289 contributionsExcellent Cambridge Wine FairExcellent Cambridge Wine Fair organised by Mark Anstead of Cambridgeshire Wine School. The relaxed and informal walk-around format allows you to taste many different wines brought to the event by the participating wine retailers. There is absolutely no hard sell and no obligation to purchase anything, though the opportunity is there if you wish to. It’s very well organised with a little booklet listing the wines being poured by the participants, who are all knowledgable and engaging. There is a mix of the familiar and the unknown - great for exploring and trying new grapes and wine styles. Thoroughly recommended.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 29 May 2023

- clareloucOxford, United Kingdom9 contributionsSuperb Italian wine tasting dayWe went to the Italian wine tasting day run by Mark, who was fantastic! He kept our attention through the whole day with lots of surprises and made wine tasting great fun, as well as teaching us what to look for when choosing wine to go with food and when browsing wine in supermarkets. Useful, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable!Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 July 2023
- Helen G1 contributionLoads of funCambridge venue Easy to find on foot from station. Wine and cheese paring was loads of fun. Mark the wine expert was great, very informative and made it interesting and funny. Decent amount of wine and cheeses to properly experience the taste, 6 wines with 6 cheeses. The 2 hours flew by. Would recommend as a gift .Visited August 2023Written 19 August 2023
- K21Cambridge, United Kingdom5 contributionsWonderful wine tasting experience! We had a very enjoyable time and learnt a lot, including how to open a bottle of sparkling wine with a sword! Mark is an engaging and knowledgeable presenter and the setting of Selwyn College was very beautiful and the lunch was generous and delicious. We thoroughly recommend this experience and will definitely take another course(s) in future! Thank you, Kevin & LucyVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 November 2023
- Gwyneth H5 contributionsEnjoyable way to spend the day.I wasn't really sure what to expect as we were joining a group to celebrate an anniversary. There is a certain amount of snobbery around wine knowledge, but this was not the experience of our wine tasting experience with the Cambridgeshire wine school. The day was the right balance of educational content, challenges to common perceptions and the opportunity to taste some delicious wines. There is plenty to demystify and Mark is the font of all knowledge when it comes to wine. Unlike a previous experience, there was no hard sell to ensure that you left with a case of something, (although we did decide to stop off to make a purchase based on the tasting). The venue was perfect for the session. The lunch was generous in portions and most tastes were catered for. (Mark spoke about various cheeses whilst introducing the red wines, and whilst we had a taster, I was craving a cheese board by the end of the day, although i doubt I would have been able to consume much more than a morsel after the large lunch)! We also learnt how to pop a champagne cork with a sword. I would recommend this fascinating experience.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 18 February 2024

I bought tickets for a days wine tasting for my husbands birthday and it was certainly a treat, and we learned quite a lot too. This is an independent tasting so no particular wine to promote, and Mark has done a good job researching his wines and gives details of cost and where it can be bought from which is really useful.

Hi, has anyone had a pre-dinner wine tasting session and later sat down for a meal after? If so, where? Am thinking of it for a milestone birthday celebration.

Hi Chictravel, that's exactly what I offer through Cambridgeshire Wine School. I use a choice between 3 restaurant venues in Cambridge that have private rooms and who won't charge a room hire if the group stays to eat. Or you can even use a college (more expensive for the meal, but very exclusive). Email me and we can fix something up!
