My guess is that most people visiting Ely Catherdral will have visited other cathedrals, so what makes it different? Monastic buildings: claimed to be the largest set still in use (though not monastic use) in Europe. Most of these uses are private so you can only see the buildings from outside, but there are enough to make for a nice... more

This tiny city on the edge of the Fenland region is a pocke venus of a place. The cathedral could be seen standing proud on the horizon, truly the ship of the fens. The building sits magestically atop the only hill for miles (depending from which direction you approach) Barton road car park is FREE and a flat walk in... more

They call this majestic building the "Ship of the Fens" surrounded as it was by water for over a thousand years until the wetalnds were drained in the 18 and 19 C. Beautiful, interesting and well worth visiting if you are in the area. Spent several hours here exploring the cathedral. Excellent guided tour available also. Take your camera! more
