What you do get is a gallery that wraps itself around the pictures and the view, and makes fantastic use of light, shade and architecture. A building that blends art and nature, sea and sky, curves and sharp lines. I love bringing our daughter here to experience the scale, the artwork and atmosphere, it provokes thought and discussion whatever the... more

Not even worth a visit if it was raining and you had nothing to do. Even if it were free. All the previous reviews were being polite. And no, i'm not anti- modern art person. It is a disgrace that a lovely building is being used in such a way. St Ives, which is an artists delight, deserves better .... more

This attraction should be a lot better. Poor art, poor attitude and worst of all poor value. Even if it were free I would not be back. more

knowing and enjoying Tate Modern and Britain I expected something special from Tate St Ives - very disappointed with everything, art, presentation, restaurant and even gift shop - all poor. Only good point was one room guide who gave an enthusiastic explanation of one contemporary artist, but as she's apparently named the piece after a brand of cat food I... more

The architecture is worth a look from the outside, over looking the beach, it does look like a place that you would enjoy. However, as soon as you walk in you are greeted, no, that is not the word, made to feel uncomfortable because I had with me, my wife, 13 and 1 year old baby. It was clear that... more

There's little wrong with the collection in the Tate St. Ives: this museum is a showcase for a movement that began locally and lives on. My problem with this gallery is the lacklustre presentation. Lighting, the resource that makes this town famous, is neither natural nor unnatural. Spaces feel cramped and constructed hurriedly. Under these conditions art easily becomes unexciting,... more

Exhibition: Tate St Ives Summer 16 May - 27 September 2009 Date of visit: 13 July 2009 Charges: Adult £5.65, Over 60 £3.20 This exhibition gives art a bad name. I have no difficulty trying to see what an artist is doing and to find something to enjoy in any work, but this collection was just awful. One or two... more

This is a fantastic building in a position overlooking one of the finest beaches anywhere – but please do not enter, if you over 60 its free but even that is too much, life is too short. Myself and friends, who are regular visitors to St Ives, have over the years visited, given the gallery a chance and paid each... more

I have to say it: this is absolute garbage. A fantastic building on a great site appeals until you go inside. First shock is the entrance fee, the only Tate to charge, and steep at seven pounds. Then into a room dominated by a giant window by Patrick Heron. I can see that some might like it but it looks... more

Peoples viewpoints on art I think are very personal. To one person something that they think is great is rubbish to someone else. I think it's always best to approach art with an open mind. It was with this open mind that I entered the Tate, St Ives with my son and Father in Law. After 10 mins. None of... more
