Six hundred years of history are contained within the walls of one of England's oldest family homes. Sir Philip Courtenay began building it in 1391 and it has remained in the same family to this day, currently home to the 18th Earl & Countess of Devon. The magical setting and convenient location makes it the perfect venue for all manner of events including wedding receptions and business functions. For locals and visitors to Devon it is a 'must see' and with its many attractions - a wonderful family day out! « less

Lovely location with attractions for both old and young (and all in between). Castle tour guides are both knowledgeable and entertaining. More than enough to fill a full day's visit. More

What a great castle and visit. There is a lot to do here. You can visit the farm shop, get a tour of the grounds and much more. The tour gives you a feel of what it was like years ago and you get to know a lot about the earl and his family and ancestors. All in all a... More

We visited Powderham Castle as a family in Summer 2010. We weren't expecting much as it's a small castle in Devon but we were amazed! The weekend we visited they had a princesses and knights weekend. The children were entertained to a story that took us all about the castle with a lady dressed as a princess, a knight and... More

I enjoyed most everything except the fact ALL attempts to listen to the tourguide were disturbed by annoying children or babies. some people should think about how boring (or useless) it is to show a history explanation to a 2 year old child, or a 6 months one. I´m sorry, but those happenings simply bothered me, twice, and when the... More

Unfortunately for me, the castle doesn't open until April 1... I was there on March 29 but had a decent cream tea (scones are enormous) and the farm shop has lots of great stuff. More
