This is a beautiful castle (stately home) set near the cliff edge. It has a small but well kept formal garden then with lawn & woodlands stretching out to the cliff edge and views to the Isle of Wight. The interior of the building is mainly derelict but English Heritage has been busy restoring it, only 4 main rooms are... More

We went to a wedding at the castle. Arrived early so i could take some photos of the castle. A beautiful place, lovely gardens, very nice cafe, also a lovely view out to see and a short walk to the beach.. The car park is discreetly hidden behind the trees and bushes. Inside is just as lovely. I was shown the... More

Fantastic shell of a building, with about 10 minutes of historic reading at most. Step up as a series of spaces that are rented out for events. Used as a gallery. Set up at hal term for making face masks and puppets which for £2 a time amused my daughter for at least 30 minutes. Also a hunt the 12... More

The castle is a wonderful place. The staff of volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable. The cost of admission is much lower than English heritage or National Trust properties. Plus, it's right by the beach. Couldn't get better. (I didn't eat in the tea room, so I can't comment) More

What a lovely castle, beautiful location, car ark great, grounds lovely, very near a wonderful beach. BUT, disgusting tea rooms/ restaurant, the food was dry, cold and crumbly, the panini was hard and tasteless, the cakes were dry and over priced and the tea was cheap and bland, completely ruined my day and my wallet. The staff are lovely and... More

I live locally and walk the cliffs 3-4 times a month all year round with a friend and the doggies, its brilliant. Amazing views! undercliff walk for a blowy day! We always follow this with delightful full bowl of homemade soup and a whole hot baguette at the tearooms. Well the last couple of visits we have noted we have... More

I agree that the bad review below must gave been written by someone who was in a bad mood in the day. Highcliffe Castle is a lovely charming place for a visit. The castle has been extensively and sympathetically restored and is staffed by knowledgeable and caring staff. The restoration work and story is amazing and an example of what... More

Having visited the tea rooms several times on my recent holiday in Dorset I must say that I am dismayed at the last review- PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE OR TAKE ANY NOTICE! My husband and I loved the whole experience- and as my husband is in the catering trade he knows a good afternoon tea when he tastes one! The... More

This 19th castle is more of stately home than a castle but it provided an interesting interlude to our trip down to the beach. In recent years, this attraction has obviously undergone large scale renovation works and having visited before it was nice to see that the castle has developed and moved forwards in renovating new rooms. Whilst there is... More
