Even with four kids there are activities. Liked the fact that there are lots of different activities from Ancient England to natural history. Friendly volunteers and a good atmosphere.
This museum is about half way up the High Street in Dorchester, well worth the visit. The whole area is situated very close to the "Jurassic Coast" and subsequently there were some very good LARGE fossil exhibits on display. The building is very ornate and there are various aspects within it. There is a Victorian gallery, a Dorchester gallery, there... More
This little Museum is first class. Everything is displayed simply and clearly - its great to take children I've noticed with this Museum they seem to get more out of the experience. Lots to do inside, art exhibitions, a wonderful little shop and a great café - never come across one so clean! This place is a bit like the... More
not a large museum but packed with lots of local historical interest, great exhibits and things that you can relate to in the area. If you are interested in history and Dorset then you will love it.
This is a really excellent local museum. Don't keep it in reserve for a rainy day if you are in the area: it should be on your "must see" itinerary. There is a great selection of exhibits. As well as a good explanation of fossils there are displays about local life including a reconstruction of a farm house interior. It... More
Really enjoyed our visit here on a weekday. The museum is a lot bigger then one may expect from the outside and has a good array of different rooms and exhibits to suit different interests and periods in history. Our two year old particularly enjoyed the dinosaur room which has useful interactive displays, toys and even dressing up outfits! Finished... More
Given my passion for archaeology Dorset County Museum seemed like a fabulous place to visit whilst in the area. We weren't wrong! This museum was quaint, and holds an amazing array of items. There are galleries which tell the story of the history of Dorset from the prehistoric, to the Romans to the more recent history. There are also cabinets... More
I wanted to counter the previous review which suggested this was of no interest to kids. I took my three & five year old children here & they had a great time. No, they're not going I read very label & no, it's not the Natural Histry Museum, but we spent a solid two hours here & the kids were... More
In the resort magazine this museum was advertised as a "great day out for kids" hmmm..... A few colours, some dinosaur teddies and a room with a some boxes does not really make a great day out. Needless to say the kids were not very entertained. The advert definitely needs re writing.
Yes. Neolithic, Roman, Saxon, Victorian! Cannot recall any Vikings mind? Loads to see from all these times and civilizations. Sadly had other things to do in the day so couldn't look at everyrhing in great detail. Was impressed with what I saw. If I am ever in Dorchester again, would take a bit more time to read the info at... More
