Full of delightful things, including some miniature paintings. Seting superb, in rolling parkland by lake. Good cafe and shop (selling Estate bottled wine from own grapes - yes English ones!). Lovely garden and facilities for wedding receptions, etc. Many interesting events staged here in Spring/Summer Nice to walk round the grounds and Sherborne residents can buy a yearly pass. More

Lots of grounds but they don't let you see that much of the inside of house and the stables have been converted into houses, shame! Best to go on a dry day or you will miss the grounds. More

I have visited Sherborne Castle on a couple of occasions, and it is well worth seeing. I am posting this review in the hope of helping them improve the visitor experience. We visited with two young children who have been to many historic houses and stately homes in England. At the door, I spoke for a few minutes with the... More

The castle is set in huge grounds and has a very special garden overlooking a lake. There is lots to see and each room in the castle has its own guide who will answer your questions and tell you about the artifacts within it. It was originally built by Sir Walter Raleigh and has a lovely collection of paintings. The... More

If you have to visit Sherborne Castle only visit the lovely grounds on a sunny day as the castle is full of upper class stuck up unfriendly guides who spend their whole time telling you not to do things. This is made worse by signs everywhere telling you not to touch, sit, stand on, eat, drink, have rucksacks on.......etc. Children... More

It cost £9.50 to enter per person to visit the Castle and grounds. There is a guide book for sale at the entrance, but the rooms in the Castle have lots of information sheets and knowledgeable attendants. The Castle takes about an hour to walk around and is ideal for people who enjoy paintings and antique furniture. There's a large... More

A disorganised venue. The gate was open but nobody was there to sell tickets, so we drove to the house. They were late opening, and then moaned that we hadn't bought a ticket at the gate. He begrudgingly took out money, but couldn't give us a ticket as they were at the main gate! Each room had sheets of paper... More

Sherborne Castle is the former home of Sir Walter Raleigh where he lived for about 10 years before he was tried for treason & subsequently executed. The castle was taken over by the Crown who then sold it to the Digby family & it has remained in the same family ever since, although it is not lived in now. I... More
