There is a lovely deer park and approach to the house, and with Holkham beach just down the road, and having seen the Marble Hall in the film The Duchess, I had high hopes for Holkham Hall. The setting is stunning and the Marble Hall is definitely impressive. However, from there on the hall smelt and felt musty and unloved.... More

We visited on Saturday May 19th, and discovered that the hall is only open on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays. The bygones museum is tired, and desperately in need of un update, its just a large collection of bits and pieces in some stables. The walled garden is not worth the walk, yes it is being restored, but the question has... More

Spend the day there on sunday 13th may. Paid 2.50 to park then 12 pound each to see what a poor run down unfinished walled garden.House ok but rooms too similar and no feeling of attachment and warmth to it.Museum lacked character.Traveled 150 mile to visit and no intention to return. More

We stayed at Wells and really appreciated the fact that you can explore the Holkham estate on foot and by bike over miles of permitted paths - for free !. You can walk from the centre of Wells to Holkham Hall very easily via the estate's East Gate in about 45 minutes, and spend most of the day walking around... More

Arrived on wet weekend, lots to do for the kids! The parkland and walled gardens are lovely and the museum was excellent. The house wasn't open when we visited but we will be going back over the bank holiday when they have a whole host of things going on. The cafe was brillant, we spent a fortune on their gorgeous... What I would describe as one of those hidden gems! We loved Holkam Hall though confess to not having heard about it until we visited the area. The huge palladian house on magnificent grounds and lake. The tea rooms were wonderful with home baked produce and we sat out in the courtyard to enjoy a super afternoon tea. Would love... More

To be honest, I'd never heard of Holkham Hall (although I've since stumbled across mentions of it umpteen times!) I therefore consider it to be a real hidden gem. The hall itself is impressively severe from outside (looks a bit like an old water pumping station) but inside it's warm and welcoming, with a fascinating mix of huge old masters... More

Myself and my partner travelled to Holkham Hall and Wells Next the Sea from Norwich where we were attending a family wedding in July last. We loved Holkam Hall the vast palladian house on magnificent grounds and lake. It helped that the summer weather was fabulous and we wandered this massive estate which is so unspoilt. The tea rooms were... More

Visited Holkham Hall Christmas Fayre Saturday 26th November. £11 entrance fee with no concessions. Extortionately overpriced to see a handful of stalls, mostly selling jewellery, and a few decorated pieces of farm machinery. Hall was nice, but £2 would have been more than enough to pay. Whole visit took about 1 hour. Best thing was the deer in the grounds. More
