As members of the National Trust, we decided to visit The Vyne as we happened to be in the area. The property is very nice - the house has a lovely position on the lake, and the exterior is lovely. The tour of the house wasn't quite as good as we had hoped. It is well presented, but we just... More

We visited the National Trust property the Vyne last week. The grounds are lovely with some great walks and wetland areas, the house is interesting, kitchen garden well presented with a good guide. The downside was the restaurant. This is not well organised, maybe because of the layout or the building, the sandwiches were horrible £3 for a two slices... More

My husband and I decided to visit the Vyne as we love historic properties and their history and we were staying in a hotel not too far away. Despite the rain we really enjoyed our time wandering around the grounds and the house was well worth the trip. We spent quite a long time looking around the house as it... More

We visited because I wanted to see the Tudor exterior, which was as beautiful as these sort of buildings always are. The Georgian exterior on the other side of the house is seen across a lake and a large lawn, and was rather marred for us by some sort of engineering work going on, with plastic tape rather spoiling the... Despite the rain it was great fun to see the archery, old-fashioned crafts like, basket making, thatching and stained glass techniques. The Hunt the rat babies was much enjoyed by my 4 year old grandson in the main house. Riding on the buggy from the carpark was also a hit, we also enjoyed the tea in the brewhouse, but missed... Wow, what a fun day. Normally we wander through NT properties being vaguely appreciative and feeling vaguely interested, but for some reason today we asked lots of questions. As a result we learned so much more than usual. We even got a bit of private instruction or restoration techniques. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. They made the visit... More

Enjoyable woodland walks and by the pond. House ok the guides in each room keen to tell you more about the house. Went on a Monday when many of the other National Trust properties in the area were closed. More

We visited The Vyne on a pleasant sunny day at the end of March. There was an attractive walk past lakes and willow trees to the main house. It is a very pleasant area to stroll around. There is a golf style buggy for the use of those unable or unwilling to walk to the house. The vegetable and fruit... More

This is a National Trust property on the outskirts of Basingstoke. We have lived in the area for a while, but only just discovered it - although it is signposted with brown signs from around Chineham. The house is fabulous, but you can choose to pay admission for just the grounds and gardens if you wish. We visited during a... More
