Hurst castle is well worth a visit, especially by boar, but pick a day with no wind because it blows a gale at the castle! More

I had never heard of Hurst Castle before a visit with friends recently and was very pleasantly surprised. Originally built by Henry VIII, it was expanded in Victorian times to boost the defence of the Solent against a perceived French naval threat. You get there in a delightful little ferryboat from Keyhaven or walk the one and a half miles... More

Spent a few hours here, went by boat. Reasonably priced. Weather was lovely and had great views out to sea from the highest points. The Needles on the Isle of Wight clearly visible on a good day. Very interesting in you like history and you can clearly see the definition of the tudor part to the more modern part. Good... More

Learn all about Henry VIII and his obsession with building fortification. Hurst Castle is a 16th century defence which has been subsequently upgraded in other centuries. 19th and 20th. So it's a mish mash of styles from Blackadder 2 and 4. As a results just incredibly interesting. And the guy on the audio handset gives you the lowdown on it... More

Interesting stopping place on the way to Keyhaven or Milton on sea. Interesting old castle with stories of the inhabitants from the old days who found pirate treasure washed ashore. Old carvings on the walls, and steeped in history. More
