You'll be here a lot longer than 10 minutes if you turn right as you enter the Great Hall and go upstairs into Queen Eleanor's private rooms (Henry II's wife). Here you'll find a small museum describing the history of Winchester Castle, the Great Hall itself and the Peninsular Barracks which back onto the Hall. The hall itself is certainly... more

All that remains of Winchester Castle is the Great Hall, a perfect example of 13th century Early Gothic architecture. This large hall is authentically devoid of furnishings and contains only a handful of objects to view. Most famously, the fraudulent and enormous Round Table of King Arthur hangs on the wall.
