It is a very interesting casle and should appeal to children. You can witness the donkey raising a bucket from the well - with a little help from its human friend and walk all round the battlements seeing wonderfull scenery. The Video is very child friendly and the history fascinating. Well worth a visit More

Great place to spend a few hours. Wonderful views from the battlements. Lovely photo oppertunities. Go and see the working water well with the donkeys. They seem very well looked after. I get a little tired of English Heratige ramming their membership at you all the time though. We had attempts to 'sell' it to us 3 times whilst there. More

I loved this attraction - for us it had it all. The walk round the battlements, the garden, the keep and the bowling green kept us occupied for some time until we went for the talk on how the donkey worked the well - including demonstration with Jill the donkey. The donkey stable is a nice place for children and... More

Well worth a visit for young and old. Lots of history. Lots to see and lots of walls to walk! The donkeys are a must see. Full of character if a little smelly! More

We spent 3 very happy hours here with our 3 boys aged 2.5, 5 and 6. Watching the donkey turn the wheel was a highlight, along with firing the canon from the top of the castle and dressing up as knights. Its great fun exploring all the nooks and crannies of the castle and agree that it's a bit spooky... More

From donkeys to ramparts, this is a fantastic experience. Go to a talk about how donkeys raise the well bucket - its worth the price of admission on its own. More

This was the attraction I remember most when I visited the Island at the age of 11 when then they dropped a stone down the well to show it depth. Now they pour water. The best part of the tour was the well house with the talk by the guide and the prescence of the donkeys. More

Carisbrooke Castle stands in a commanding position on a hill overlooking Newport, and from from its ramparts you can see most of the Island. Unlike many castles, Carisbrooke is very well preserved with many original buildings, chapel, well etc. Particular pleasures-for those seeking the Moonfleet Blackbeard's diamonds is watching the donkeys walking the wheel that propels the bucket up and...
